My last post showed the Easter ‘painted’ cookies Blake had made for his school homework. Well as it’s Easter Day I’d better show you the Easter fondant cookies Zac Made.
Want to see how to make them?
We followed the same basic cookie recipe as used in my previous post here. Rolled the dough out and cut with a scalloped circle cutter, then the fun started!
We got a load of ready made white fondant icing and some Wilton food colouring pastes. I’d recommend wearing food-safe gloves for this bit unless you want to colour your hands to match your icing! Grab a bit of white fondant icing and dip a cocktail stick in the colour paste – dab into the icing and then discard the cocktail stick as you don’t want to put icing back into the paste tub. Make sure you have your gloves on and then knead the icing to mix the colour in. You can always add more colour paste if you want a more intense colour. We only used one dip in the paste for each colour and made loads of icing.
As you can see we mixed some gorgeous Easter colours for our cookies. Zac liked the bright yellow best, I just like them all together, the colours make me happy.
Here’s the BEST bit! I have some Stampin’ Up! cookie press moulds but not Easter themed ones and much as I tried to get my hands on a set they used to supply I came up with a blank. So I turned to good old Google to find an alternative and was chuffed to bits to find this 6 disc Easter themed cookie press. I ended up getting it from Amazon and it’s made by a company called Tescoma. It cuts the cookie dough and then stamps it too although obviously we’ve cut and stamped the fondant icing instead. If you want to see how it works, have a look on the Tescoma website here.
Zac really enjoyed cutting and pressing the ‘stamps’ in the icing and then ‘glueing’ them to the cookies. We just made a mix of icing sugar, lemon juice and water and painted it onto the cookies with a pastry brush.
Zac could even change the stamps himself. See how we bagged up all the fondant icing to stop it drying out? the good news is we kept the extra too for some more cookies later on!
Here is a very proud Zac with his finished Easter fondant cookies:
He came home from school with an empty cookie tin!
See you soon
