It’s been AGES since I pulled my finger out and created a homemade card. Which is a bit sad when I think I used to make at least one every day. Even on this occasion, I might have bought a card – BUT I didn’t have chance to go out and so to the Room of Craft it was!
Me and The Spark don’t really ‘do’ Valentine’s Day. Find it all a bit commercial in the sense we would never book a meal out on the day but we will go so far as to give each other a card and probably cook a nice meal too. Actually, we had planned a trip to the cinema to see Trainspotting 2 but we both felt quite ill and skipped it for a quiet evening in with a takeaway curry. Wasn’t such a bad evening after all!
So, the whole me being under the weather was the reason for not dashing to the shops for a card. I know I’ve got stuff to make cards with I just don’t often feel the love for it anymore, something I plan to change! Anyhoo……..I came up with an idea in my head using the Mixed Drinks stamp set from Stampin’ Up!:
I got this set last year when I joined as a demonstrator (not one now – just joined during a promotion to get lots of stash for a bargain price). In fact, the promotion is on again right now so if you’re interested why not hop over and visit my friend Louise the Stampin’ Senorita over at her blog Stampin’ Delight?
Back to my card. In my head the design also used a stamp set called Labeler:
Sadly at the time of making the card, I didn’t have this set. (note the ‘didn’t’……now ‘does’!) so I had to improvise and use a downloaded font and print on the card blank before doing any stamping. I stamped the glasses and the sentiment and I was contemplating a spot of colouring in but then worried I might mess the whole thing up and need to start again. So I turned to my Stampin’ Up! ink pads and used the stamps in the set to ‘fill’ and decorate the glasses. I wanted to add a little something more so I doodled around the edge of the card to finish it off. Ta da:
Have to say I did really enjoy making this and I’m really chuffed with how it turned out too. Want to see the card I got?
It was me who popped the rose in a beer bottle, not The Spark! I don’t have a vase suitable for a single flower this tall so a large empty beer bottle from the recycling did the trick. I may have washed it out and saved it for future use now – ever the optimist that he’ll buy me another some day!
See you soon.
